The Saint & Barbarian blend captures Santa Barbara County’s ability to grow Syrah that displays Syrah’s extremes simultaneously. Deep, concentrated jammy fruit mingle with meat, iron, olive, floral notes, spice, and herbs. Shokrian Vineyard’s clone 470 is planted on a steep, north facing sand dune. The vines really struggle in that terrain and the aspect makes the fruit ripen very late in the season. 2020’s heat spikes hurried things along slightly, resulting in a very floral and spicy Syrah, and a lower alcohol. Rancho Sisquoc is situated deep in the eastern end of the Santa Maria Valley where the warm yet very coastal climate allows grapevines to thrive. Famous for it’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley grows warmer climate Bordeaux varieties with amazing character. Syrah, which hangs longer than Burgundian varieties but shorter than Bordeaux varieties is in a perfect microclimate in the SMV. Nose: Very aromatic, jammy blueberry and blackberry, vanilla bean, incense, fennel, cinnamon, sarsparilla, root beer
Mouth: Rich, sweet, long, soft tannin. Smokey blueberry, blackberry jam, Candied fruit, peppercorn, raw meat, sun cured olive and an herbal mintiness.
