Description
2019 Grüner Veltliner:
Varietal: Grüner Veltliner
Vineyard: Unnamed Source
Region: Santa Barbara, CA
Bottle Size: 750ml
This Grüner was fermented primarily in a terra cotta amphora and a small proportion fermented in a new, lightly toasted Stockinger barrel. Stockinger is made in Austria (the oak originates from Austria, Hungary, Romania Germany) where Gruner originates from. We have found that it works really nicely in whites, imparting a fragrant character from the wood that somehow accentuates the fruitiness and spiciness of the wine.
While this wine retains Gruner’s steely, refreshing acidity, the addition of oak influence lends a slightly richer mouthfeel than our last Gruner which was made in stainless steel and terra cotta. The flavors are very varietally correct showing flint and apple notes but it is slightly riper in personality.
