2015 Alder Springs, Pinot Noir
2015 Alder Springs Pinot Noir
Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir
Vineyard: Alder Springs Vineyard
Region: Mendocino County, CA
Bottle Size: 750ml
For 2015 we decided to work with Pinot Noir from Northern California to showcase this varietal’s expression from a such a different climatic zone than California’s Southern Central Coast. Alder Springs is one of the most dramatic vineyards we have ever worked with. Planted in high elevation on steep slopes, our Pinot comes from the Spirit Rock block which is at the top of the vineyard. Vines here really struggle, generating small yields of very concentrated fruit. We utilized Pommard, Dijon and Heritage clones to try to make the most complete expression of Pinot Noir possible. This is quite extracted and structured for a Pinot yet showing beautiful fruit depth and complexity.
Last Tasted: April 2019
This wine has developed beautifully. With just a bit of air this is an easy and fun drinkable wine.
Nose: Exploding with gorgeous red fruit, building complexity with characteristic PN earthy notes as it opens in glass.
Mouth: Silky to the core but with great mineral tannin and acidity. Beautiful red, floral fruit tones. Faintly woody with some umami/shiitake on the finish.
- Some decanting will help fruit notes emerge and integrate tannins
- Drinking Window: Drink Now – 2025
- Our Pairing Choices: Rack of lamb, Beef Bourguignon, Duck Confit.
