2015 Ha’azinu, Zinfandel
Varietals: 100% Zinfandel
Vineyards: Whalerock Vineyard
Regions: Templeton Gap, Paso Robles (Westside)
Bottle Size: 750ml
Named after Parshat Ha’azinu which is a Shirah in the Torah. This wine is 100% Zinfandel from Whalerock Vineyard in the Templeton Gap. Zinfandel’s home in the Central Coast is Paso Robles. The conditions are perfect for ripening Zin here with very warm days and cold nights along with dry, breezy air. The soil is calcareous and strewn with fossilized whale bones. Our vines are head trained, with small berry size and low yields.
2015 Haazinu Zinfandel is dark and full bodied with ample tannin and acidity. Zinfandel really works well with oak and this wine was aged in 25% new and 25% once used French Oak giving it really nice toasty oak and body.
Last Tasted: April 2019
This ready for fun times. Heady and hedonistic.
Nose: Classic Zin bramble, iron, tilled earth, warm alcohol, very faint oak, cranberry, pomegranate, and tomato.
Mouth: Big with some glycerol sweetness. Full bodied with fully integrated tannin. Oak sugar/brulee, lumber with pomegranate fruit tones.
- This is a big, intense wine. Although this is quite enjoyable now, it should age beautifully.
